What is the SSB Interview?
The Services Selection Board (SSB) interview is a rigorous, five-day selection process that evaluates candidates for officer entry into the Indian Armed Forces. Unlike conventional interviews, it focuses on assessing 'Officer Like Qualities' (OLQs) through a blend of psychological tests, group activities, and personal interviews. The aim is to identify individuals with the right blend of intellect, personality, and leadership attributes to lead in a life of service.
The 5-Day Journey
Day 1: Screening
The initial filtering stage. This day assesses basic intelligence and perception skills to select candidates for the next phase.
Day 2: Psychology Tests
A series of written tests designed to reveal subconscious thoughts, reactions, and core personality traits.
Day 3 & 4: GTO Tasks
Outdoor and indoor group tasks observing leadership, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills in action.
The Interview
A personal conversation with a senior officer to delve deeper into your personality, background, and motivation. This can occur on Day 2, 3, or 4.
Day 5: Conference
The final day where all assessors discuss each candidate's performance and make the final selection decision.
This is the critical initial filtering stage. Only candidates who clear Day 1 proceed to the rest of the evaluation. It's designed to assess baseline intelligence and group cooperation.

Conducted by the Interviewing Officer (IO), a senior officer, this personal conversation aims to gain a deeper insight into your life, personality, and motivations. It can be scheduled anytime between Day 2 and Day 4.
