SSB Psychology Tests

Unlocking Day 2 of Your Officer Journey

Understanding Day 2: The Mind Games

Day 2 of the SSB Interview is dedicated to a series of psychological tests. These aren't about right or wrong answers, but about revealing your subconscious thoughts, reactions, and core personality traits. The Psychologist uses these tests to understand your 'Officer Like Qualities' (OLQs) when you're under pressure and time constraints.

This interactive guide will walk you through each test, provide insights into their purpose, and offer tips for self-practice. Remember, consistency in thought and action across all tests is key!

Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)

You are shown 11 pictures (10 ambiguous, 1 blank) for 30 seconds each. After each picture, you have 4 minutes to write a story based on it. For the blank slide, you imagine a picture and write a story.

Purpose: To assess your imagination, creativity, and underlying thought processes, revealing your personality and OLQs.

Tips for TAT:

  • Write positive, heroic, and action-oriented stories.
  • Ensure your stories have a clear past, present (what's happening), and future (what will happen).
  • Focus on a central character who is a leader or problem-solver.
  • Avoid negative themes, self-pity, or overly dramatic narratives.
  • Your stories should subtly reflect your Officer Like Qualities (OLQs).

Self-Description Test (SDT)

You write about what your parents, teachers/employers, friends, and you yourself think about you, along with the qualities you would like to develop. This is typically done in a structured format.

Purpose: To assess your self-awareness, honesty, and understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, and your desire for self-improvement.

Reflect and write your honest self-description for each aspect:

What do your **Parents** think about you?

What do your **Teachers/Employers** think about you?

What do your **Friends** think about you?

What do **you** think about yourself?

What qualities would you like to **develop**?

Tips for SDT:

  • Be honest and balanced in your self-assessment.
  • Highlight positive traits and provide brief examples if possible.
  • Show awareness of your areas for improvement and mention concrete steps you are taking.
  • Ensure consistency with what you've presented in other tests and the interview.
  • Your desire to develop should align with OLQs.
